Music, should it be free?

Almost everyone has download a music track illegally and for someone it's also become a habit, it’s so easy it’s scary, just a push of a button and you’re a criminal. Should this really be the case? Should the police stop this or make it legal?

A great new program called Spotify is out now and this program is great, because you could listen to music without download it. At the moment you need an invite to use it, but it will soon be open for everyone. This is great; however there is one downside, when you don’t have internet connection you don’t have any music.

I get that the artist doesn’t get paid when the music is free, but how much do they get if we list to the music at Spotify? I think the future is free and most of it is paid by commercials so I think we should start the future now and begin with free legal music now! What do you think?

Hmm.. I think that the downloading is “dragging the biggest artists down a bit”, so that they don’t get so rich and famous. If you look at the artists like Pink Floyd and Beatles, and then try to compare them to some of the artists from today, you’ll see that there are no such as big artists as them. And in addition to this, people are listening to more bands than before, because it’s easier to find new music, through the internet. I think spotify is kind of a good thing, it’s easy to use, and it helps you to find new music. And you’ll have to buy cd’s, because you can’t use spotify without internet or pc.

Thanks for your contribution to the blog, Anne! I've heard about Spotify too, actually, and I believe some family members of mine have tried it. What I wonder about though, is the following: Isn't it very inconvenient that you have to be connected to the Internet each time you want to listen to music...?

yes, you're not always at the computer, you're often just listing to you're ipod. So you have to buy the music, but the problem is that we are under the age of 18 and don't have Visa so we can't but music on-line without help from someone over the age of 18.

Music should not be free. Musicians do not make songs so that people can "steal" them. They live of making music, and when people don't buy them to listen to them, the artists do not get paid for their work.
I have, like all of my friends, donwloaded music in programs where I don't have to pay for the songs, but when I think of it, it's wrong.
One of my songs is on iTunes, where you have to pay for the songs, and I would not like people to download it free.
You ask: how much does the artists get payed for their songs when people download them. It is not much, aroud o.50 NOK, but money is money. And it is what they live of.
So stop free downloading of music!

Many believe that Spotify is free, but it is only a small part of the program that is free. When you receive an invite from a friend or from a website you will only get the demon. To get the Premium package, you must pay 1.99 € for every month. So the artists get paid for the hard work. Spotify is one of the best music program or even THE best music program.
Of course not all the songs contained in this application for it is the not all artists who are willing to join in an agreement with Spotify.

Music should not be free and it cannot be legal to download. Those are already many people who download music. Shown it is legal downloading nearly all to download. Finally become no one make music anymore

i think spotify is a great program, i think it should absolutely free to listen too music on the computer, because when it is a program, it is not possible to take that music whit you anywhere, you can only listen to music on your computer. i hope they find up a new spotify, called phonify or something for you cellphone.

The problem Jørn is that "phonify" would be very expensive because you need to use the internet to upload music because you can't download it to the phone, because that will not be legal. So the industry need's to find another way to solve this problem, because at the moment it is too easy to download music illegally.

"Spotify is tha thing". Spotify is great, but it also can be used by publish a band or solo artist first song and they could maybe be famous in future by publish a CD. Music is a job for many artists, but if you see Madonna or 50cent they got aaaaaaaaaalot of money. Music by rich artists could be downloaded.
