Twitter and World War 2

NRK wrote an article about the British school. And their plan for primary school to remove education about world war 2  and the Victorian time,  and instead learn about Twitter (same as facebook almost) and Wikipedia. This seems like a joke, but it isn't. This is real fact and I can' even think WHY? The ww2 was over for about 60 years, your grandmother and grandfather lived to it, and it's a HUGE part of European history. In addition what do you need Twitter for? I think it’s so much more interesting and useful to learn history instead, because it’s our past and it’s what made today as it is. Why do you really need to learn Twitter at school, it’s a program you use in your free time not at school or work.

Do you really think we should waste our education to learn about Wikipedia and twitter and not history?

i believe that everyone should and must learn about history! If we forget what has happened, are we doomed to repeat it! It is important that we know where we are from. Personally, I would have been agree if I hadn't known where I had come from, because then I hadn't knew anything about my ancestors.

This is ridiculous, if we stop learning our children about World War 2 this will happen again even sooner. And yes something as horrible as this WILL happen again in the future, the history have allways repeated itself, so why not this time? And for people in school to learn about Twitter instead? We teenagers know this better than "the old folks". Twitter is not something important to learn about in school, it's like we remove algebra from math.

Haha, that is the worst thing I've heard in a long time. They can't mean this, seriously! How are the children supposed to learn how to learn to grow up to be responsible, and to not do the same mistake again if they dont learn about the mistakes our people made in the past? Of course it would be a bit funny to learn about Facebook for 1 hour, but I would not trade it against WW2.

This is one of the most frightening I have read on this blog, here are the teachers and the state in England youngsters education. How can
A prime minister comes up whit something so stupid like that? Of course it could have been a bit fun to “forget” everything called homework and school in maybe 30 min except for the breaks, where you can learn a little more about sources. Since there is talked about remove World War II, which is one of the world's greatest disasters that were in the Europe. How can the next generation learn to not commit the same mistake again shown, we do not teach them that this should not happen later?

Who need to learn about Twitter? They that want to know more about it can read about it online. It is not very important and does not fit in a classroom. History is the only means our society has to prevent horrible actions happen in the future. WW2 is not an ancient event, but a very recent one. It is very real and can happen again. Only by learning history and understand why things have happened, we can make a better world tomorrow.

It's really interesting to read that you feel that young people today should learn aboiut history and what took place during world war II.

- How do you think the British education authorties argue for this decision?
